Kite-flyers Near HMR Has To Go For Normal Manja
The kite-flyers near metro stations has to be very careful, as the electric lines of metro are 25 kv which are very powerful and dangerous. So, the kite-flyers has to need to do spadework before purchasing the relevant accessories.
The Managing Director of HMR says that the “public has to prefer normal manjas” and the other types of manjas which are made up of nylon threads and plastic are even harmful to the birds.
Usually they are different types of manjas which are made up of cotton and nylon threads. The plastic manjas which are made by China are also available in few states but they recently got banned in Telangana.
The reason to go for normal manjas is the normal thread break easily but the case with plastic manaja is different. When these kinds of threads get stuck in power lines of metro and surrounding trees which is very harmful to other living creatures.
Rajender Singh from Begum Bazaar, whose family is selling kites for the last 85 years, warned about the plastic manja. “Some plastic manjas have iron powder coating that can act as a conductor if they fall on power cables”.
“People flying kites along Metro Rail route have to avoid any kind of plastic manjas. The government has imposed a ban on the Chinese manja, but it has to be strictly implemented,” he said.
Deputy director of Human Society International, an animal protection group, said, “The ban is applicable on the use of other synthetic (non-biodegradable) threads coated with glass and other harmful substances, which have the potential to cause injuries to birds. We hope the government will keep a strict vigil on this.”
Also the maintenance team of Hyderabad Metro Rail has to keep a key observation and to check if the kite strings are entangled with the power cables.
The public has to get awareness about the manjas and how the chinese manjas effect the birds.
